WIDE+ and ActionAid (Brussels office) are co-organising a webinar titled "Corporate Responsibility in the European Union: What's the feminist way forward?"
This webinar will gather CSOs and activists from Europe to take stock of the latest development on the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and to sketch some of the key opportunities ahead for a coherent European and global framework to hold transnational companies accountable. The webinar is being organised in light of the political compromise on the CSDDD, yet to be adopted by the Parliament. While constituting a landmark legislation for regulating multinational corporations, the final deal has significantly watered down the scope of the directive, which will now apply to only 0.05% of European companies with an even shorter chain of activities covered.
This is a major setback for all CSOs and activists in Europe and the Global South that fought for the CSDDD to protect the planet and the most vulnerable, particularly women.
This webinar aims to critically analyze the CSDDD through a gender lens and identify clear opportunities and recommendations for transposition/implementation stages as well as to explore the opportunities that can arise from a greater EU engagement in the UN and the negotiations for the Binding treaty on Business and Human Rights.
Confirmed speakers: Anna Hengeveld/Maelys Orellana (ActionAid Netherlands/France), Jan Christian Niebank (Policy officer from the German Ministry of Labour), Nyaradzo Mutonhori (Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association)
