Panel discussion on the sidelines of the
22nd Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325
The Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), in
partnership with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations,
is organizing a panel discussion featuring local women peacebuilders from
Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lebanon and Nigeria to
share insights from the Localization of the Women, Peace and Security
(WPS) agenda and the uses of Gender Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) for more
effective implementation of WPS.
The objectives of the panel discussion
are:
1.
To enable
local women peacebuilders from Colombia, DRC, Lebanon and Nigeria to
present their experiences in implementing the WPS resolutions, including
the use of GBA+ in their work;
2.
To discuss how Localization lends itself
to timely, practical and effective responses to conflict and crises such
as the COVID-19 pandemic and why it should be a standard practice in
implementation; and
3.
To generate
more support for local women peacebuilders’ work in Localizing the WPS
agenda from policymakers, donors and civil society from around the world. Interpretation
will be available in Arabic, American Sign Language (ASL), French and
Spanish.
