The civil society leaders of the Generation Equality Action Coalition on Feminist Movements & Leadership (AC6) are organizing a first online dialogue next week. The session will bring together feminist, women’s rights, trans, intersex and nonbinary activists and movements to discuss the draft priority actions presented during the Generation Equality Forum Mexico in March 2021. Organizations are invited to share their views on what this Action Coalition should do to drive transformative change. We aim to resource feminist movements, protect civic space, have meaningful participation and support for young feminists and adolescent girls in their participation and leadership.
Generation Equality is a global multigenerational 5-year campaign convened by UN Women to champion women’s rights and gender equality. It aims to realize the unfinished work of the 4th World Conference of Women, 26 years ago in Beijing. Commitments to contribute to this progress will be showcased at the Generation Equality Paris Forum that takes place 30 June –02 July 2021.
The Action Coalition on Feminist Movements & Leadership is a multi-stakeholder partnership established to feed into Generation Equality. It mobilizes commitments by governments, civil society, international organizations, and the private sector specifically to resource and support feminists movements and leadership. The intention is that feminist leaders, movements and organizations should be able to carry out their work to advance genera equality, peace and human rights for all sustainably and without fear of reprisal.
The Netherlands is one of three countries represented in the leadership of this Action Coalition, in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs-funded Count Me In! consortium. WO=MEN is a strategic partner of Count Me In! and will organize a dedicated (online) session in preparation of the Paris Forum specifically for Dutch civil society.
