By Atria en WO=MEN
Date: Friday 31 January
Time: 13:00
Location: Bibliotheek van Atria, Vijzelstraat 20, Amsterdam
Language: Dutch & English

In 1995, 17,000 delegates and 30,000 activists from around the world united in Beijing to attend the Fourth World Conference on Women. This was one of the largest meetings to promote women's rights ever held. This is why Atria and WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform, in collaboration with Wikimedia NL and Ihlia, are organising a Wikipedia writing afternoon about this World Conference on Women and the new themes and issues of gender equality.

Events organised in light of 'Beijing+30 in Netherlands: Reflect, Engage and Act Together for Gender Justice'

  • Kick-off meeting: Beijing+30 and CSW69 - Monday 14 October
By WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform and Atria
On Monday afternoon, 14 October, we organised an annual kick-off meeting in preparation for the upcoming women's summit in New York: the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Want to read more about what was discussed during this kick-off? Read more about it in the blog Sofia Gkaits wrote (in Dutch only).

  • Gender/ Equality/ Climate Crisis: Women's Climate Leadership in Pakistan & The Philippines - Thursday 31 October
By Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) and CARE Netherlands
When a climate disaster hits, will menstrual products be made available to those that are displaced? A crucial question for anybody with a period, but unfortunately one that is unlikely to be answered if only men are a part of designing disaster response policies and measures.

  • Regional Beijing+30 meeting: civil society debriefing - Tuesday 5 November
By WO=MEN and others
The UNECE Regional Review of Beijing+30 took place 21 - 22 October 2024 in Geneva. In the weekend prior to this formal review between Member States, a civil society forum was organised by NGO CSW Geneva. Several WO=MEN staff and members did participate in (one or both of) these events. We used this informal debriefing space to share experiences and reflections of these meetings, respond to questions, and consider implications for follow-up towards Beijing+30 in New York in March 2025.

  • Sex work, labour rights and the UNโ€ฏ - Monday 11 November
By Mondiaal FNV and SekswerkExpertise
Sex workers are a highly marginalized and diverse group of precarious workers who often face severe pushback, exclusion and harassment. How do sex workersโ€™ rights translate to a UN context? How do you de-conflate sex work and trafficking? How can you be a feminist ally to sex workers? That was what this session was about.

  • Revitalizing collectivism as civil society organizations: movement building towards the revitalization of the CSW - Wednesday 20 november
Door COC Nederland, CHOICE for Youth & Sexuality en Hivos
We find ourselves, as members of the broad Dutch civil society, navigating uncharted waters with the recent shift to a right-wing government. For many working on gender-related issues, this period has been marked by unexpected setbacks and new challenges. In light of the UN Women's call for revitalization in the lead-up to Beijing 30+, we view this moment as an opportunity for collective reflection and renewal, tapping into the ongoing revitalization process of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) spearheaded by UN Women.

The interactive session was led by Joana Cavaco, known for her fierce advocacy and groundbreaking work in advancing gender equality, particularly through her leadership in mobilizing civil society efforts in global forums. Together, we explored how to work more effectively toward systemic change, critically examining our relationship with the state as feminists and queer led organizations, while devising strategies for independent action in both the Development Cooperation sector and within the CSW process.

  • Strong together for male allyship! (Dutch only) - Wednesday 27 November
By Politica, Emancipator en WO=MEN
