Supervisory Board: Chairperson Audit Committee

Plan International is a development cooperation- and humanitarian organization working in more than 80 countries, with a special focus on girls and young women. With the support of thousands of sponsors, (institutional) donors and corporate partners, Plan International in the Netherlands works to improve the lives of children and young people around the world. Our Supervisory Board is a vital part of our organisation. The Chair of the Audit Committee has nearly completed the maximum term (eight years) for this role.
 
We are therefore seeking a new Audit Committee Chair / Supervisory Board member with the following profile:
  • Experienced leader in business operations and financial management, in the non-profit sectorand ideally also in the profit sector;
  • Strong understanding of risk management and compliance in an organisation with (partly)subsidized programmes and multiple institutional donors. Knowledge of the Dutch sectorspecific accounting rules (RJ640/650) would be an advantage;
  • Prior board experience in a similar role; knows how to strike the right balance betweensupervision and involvement;
  • Strategic discussion partner for the Director, the CFO and the external auditor;
  • International working experience, specifically in the Global South, would be useful in this role,but is not essential.
In addition, all Board members must have the following profile:
  • You understand the role of a Supervisory Board and are able to act as strategic advisor to the director. You operate at academic thinking level;
  • You are passionate about the themes that Plan International works on; a true gender equality champion and activist for change;
  • You are willing to fulfil all formal roles of a Supervisory Board member, in compliance with the Articles;
  • You have sufficient availability to fulfil this role well (four board meetings and four audit committee meetings in Amsterdam per year, 1-3 additional optional events);
Candidates must be proficient in English. Basic Dutch language skills are desirable. The Supervisory Board meets face to face, as does the Audit Committee. For that reason, candidates must reside in the Netherlands.
 
This is a voluntary role; Supervisory Board members receive no remuneration, only reasonable expenses made to fulfil the role, such as travel expenses, are reimbursed.
 
The safety of children and young adults is essential to Plan International. Therefore, Plan International does not tolerate any form of abuse. This topic will be addressed in the selection process, and a certificate of good conduct will be required. A reference check will also be part of the process.

  • The formal appointment will take place in the Supervisory Board meeting on October 1st 2024.
