The corona crisis affects everyone, but the virus has another, more hidden effect on women. Because the moment a crisis breaks out, women's rights are immediately pushed aside. Moreover, we see suspiciously few women at the decision tables. And that is where, at this crucial time in our history, the decisions are made that will affect us well into our future.
"It comes from all sides,” says Anne-Floor Dekker of the organization WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform, a network that works for gender equality worldwide. She's worried, she says. For some time now, because women's rights have been under pressure again worldwide in recent years, but with the current developments surrounding the corona virus, her concern is increasing considerably.
