What does feminist COVID-19 recovery look like in the context of conflict?

Across the world, the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected women and girls. The crisis has worsened gender inequality, further restricted women’s access to social and health services, economic and educational opportunities, and increased their vulnerability to violence and security risks.

To enable a gendered analysis of the impact of COVID-19 and other crises, throughout 2021, GNWP and its national and local partners organized online crisis and risk communication strategy workshops supported by Global Affairs Canada. They convened women and youth activists, media representatives, and local leaders from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, and Nigeria who have been the first responders in the COVID-19 crisis. 

On 18 October, GNWP and the Government of Canada are hosting a virtual panel with women peacebuilders and first responders who took part in the crisis and risk communication workshops to share their key advocacy priorities. The panelists will present their perspectives on what is needed to ensure local women’s leadership in crisis response and a gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive recovery from the pandemic.
